i made a solo music release for the first time in a while…
“six sols” is a collection of solo electric viola performances. it is available on bandcamp in digital form and as a very limited cassette. it is also available for streaming and downloading directly from my site. (note that downloads are “soft pay-curtained” - donate only if you feel moved to do so.)

decisions / restrictions
hearing has become more difficult. tones and noises emerge and retreat. thresholds shift, day by day.
even subtle and sophisticated equalization proves destructive to the realness of the sounds, in my shifting ears.
two loops were captured, separately but layered. in the room, they repeated many times. in editing, i let the raw loop files repeat, 3-7 times each, from a common starting point. stereo placement was varied.
in the last two tracks, a different kind of capture was made: additionally processed stereo mixes, instead of raw loops.
in the world
i’m shy about recording my solo work. i didn’t used to be. what has changed? too much. maybe shy is the wrong word. (thus, a moth object - a new psychic container. next planned releases are very different in style and personnel.)
but, ok here they are, some things i played, with my instrument. they made sense at the time.
(i played these sounds while waiting for the birth of my son.)
